its easy, log in to your karmic koala and run this command in terminal :
sudo apt-get install php5* apache* mysql*
Be sure to set username and password for mysql server. You will see this screen on terminal. This will install any possible package that you may need for web development using PHP, MySQL and Apache. You may have to reboot and then point your browser to http://localhost/. If you dont see anything then run following in terminal:
sudo /etc/init.d/apache2 reload
If things still not work out let me know

Have you set up a LAMP stack on your 9.10 desktop? I’d love to know how. I want to set up a working environment to practice Joomla themeing and Wordpress themeing.
